Board upkeep

Every five minutes Kanbero runs a check that keeps the board honest without anyone touching it. In the API and the database this job is called the steward; in the app it is board upkeep.

What one check does

It moves a Scheduled card to To do when its planned date has arrived. It marks a Doing card as stalled when its agent has not sent a heartbeat within the card's stalled window. It clears the stalled flag when the agent reports again. It archives Done cards after the number of days you set. It marks an agent as Quiet after a day without contact.

Settings

Settings, Board upkeep: the default stalled window in minutes, and how many days a Done card stays before it is archived. A card can carry its own stalled window (stale_after_minutes) when a job is known to run long.

Run a check yourself

One check covers every workspace in Kanbero, so running it by hand is for Kanbero administrators: Check now on the dashboard runs one immediately, and a scheduler outside Kanbero can trigger it with a POST to /api/steward/tick and the X-Steward-Key header. The key and the list of recent checks are in Settings, Board upkeep, visible only to administrators. A workspace owner sets the two windows for their own workspace there.
